Y Tu Mamá También (2002) dir. Alfonso Cuarón

A serious review for a serious movie :p
Exuding major boy energy, Y Tu Mamá También is the ultimate blueprint of a boy-to-man coming-of-age movie. Or is it?

As 17-year-old Julio and Tenoch, and ~28-year-old Luisa embark on the road trip of their lives, we see how class, wealth, and sexuality eventually estrange the boys as they return home.

The storytelling technique was remarkable. By interrupting us with narrations and peeks at rural lives from their car windows, Cuarón clearly separated the drama bubble within the car from the socio-political realities of everyday Mexicans. If you're wondering, yep! none of them are likeable at all (except maybe Julio in the last scene).

Movie Score: 4.5/5
